Mr. Stastny’s experience includes a wide range of criminal litigation representing individual clients both at the trial and appellate level in Ontario. Mr. Stastny has argued at all levels of court in Ontario and has successfully defended hundreds of different clients at the trial level both in the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice. Mr. Stastny’s practice deals with defending the entire spectrum of criminal charges with a focus on defending drug and weapon offences, particularly in the context of challenges to unlawful police conduct under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Mr. Stastny received a Specialized Honours B.A. in political science from York University, where he finished at the top of his class, receiving the Summa Cum Laude distinction. Thereafter Mr. Stastny received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Toronto Law School, where he focused on the study of criminal procedure and evidence. Mr. Stastny was called to the Bar of Ontario after completing intensive articling in criminal law and has practiced almost exclusively criminal defence law since he began his practice.
